Consumer and Family Advisory Board (CFAB)

Jefferson Center consumers and family members of adult consumers participate in the Consumer and Family Advisory Board (CFAB) sponsored by FBH. The CFAB includes Medicaid and non-Medicaid consumers and family members from Jefferson Center and from the Mental Health Center Serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties (MHCCBC). A key role of the CFAB is to provide FBH and its two mental health centers – Jefferson Center and MHCBBC – with unique, consumer-oriented information about how to advance recovery-based services. The CFAB has been a focal point for bringing forward the consumers’ point of view about mental health services. Incorporating that consumer perspective is essential to recovery-based treatment.

Activities of the Consumer and Family Advisory Board during 2007 have included:

• Providing input into new programs at Jefferson Center and MHCBBC
• Reviewing Program Impact Analysis for FY 2007 and other reports produced by the FBH Quality Assurance and Performance Indicators (QAPI) staff
• Reviewing and advising on printed materials intended for consumers
• Meeting with CEOs of each of the mental health centers to discuss strategy
• Providing input into the FBH Strategic Plan
• Conducting extensive review of possible alternative services that could be provided by FBH culminating in a list of recommendations to the FBH Executive Director

The Consumer and Family Advisory Board meets monthly on the third Thursday from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm. Members receive a stipend to recognize the value of their expertise and defray travel expenses. In addition, FBH supports some CFAB members in attending local and out-of-town conferences to learn about the roles of consumers in promoting recovery-based mental health services.
