The holiday season can be one of the most joyous times of the year and yet also a difficult time for many. Remember to take care of yourself, keep things simple and reach out to friends and family to keep the holidays happy.  Here are some more tips to help make your holidays happy:

Moderate Your Merriment

Try to eat and drink in moderation. Don’t berate yourself if you get off your normal schedule.  Just acknowledge you’re human and get back on track and move on from there.

Move it!

Physical activity is a great anti-stressor and it releases those great feel-good endorphins into your system. Be active — move, stretch, take a walk, get out in the fresh air. Just 15 minutes can make a big difference.

Get Real

Be honest and realistic with expectations. Enjoy what you can as it comes. Also, make a list of the things you can be thankful for—even the small ones.

Take Time for You

Find a serene place of your own, even if it’s just a comfortable chair in a corner. Try meditation. Attend a spiritual service or take a yoga class, or volunteer for a cause you support—a good way to feed your mind and spirit and help you relax.

Hibernate as needed

Getting enough sleep is critical for our physical, spiritual and emotional health.

Avoid Over-spending

It is important to set a budget that you can afford – without excessive debt – and stick to it. Consider homemade gifts and/or gift exchanges. These are good options that can cut down on the cost.
