Getting Started with Psychiatry

Intake and Assessments

  • When you call the psychiatry team at Jefferson Center, you will be scheduled for an initial intake and a 90-minute assessment with you and your child.
  • The primary goal of the assessment is to provide an answer to the symptoms presented.
  • After the assessment, the psychiatric team will work with you to develop a treatment plan including therapy, additional testing such as ADHD and Autism, and medication as necessary.
  • If necessary, the psychiatry team can provide letters of recommendation to schools while the referral to psychological testing is pending.
  • As medical doctors, they may also provide referrals and recommendations based on physical issues that may be contributing to symptoms.
